Exploring Silver Beach

We spent Tuesday around town. We looked at a few downtown shops and meandered over to Silver Beach. Here are some of our finds.

Seagulls

Zebra Mussel shells. Zebra Mussels are an invasive species but at least they have pretty shells.

Stripes in the sand from the tide. Lake Michigan is a large enough lake that it has tides.

Drift wood

Painted animals. Every year there is a different sculpture theme. I think this year is Safari. We saw Llamas, Elephants, Hippos, Lions and a bunch more. The two featured here are "Barack Llama" (Haha get it? Barack Llama, Barack Obama) and the Elephant is called "Learning to Fly".

This is a crocheted or knitted indoor Frisbee. I want one. Someone please make this for me. We found it at the Toy Company.

Looks like you had a great day at the beach, Jessica. Are there lots of zebra mussels scattered all over? I do like the seagulls and the other animals...isn't it nice that it's still warm enough to go to the beach?

Yes, they are all over the place on the beach. They are really bad on Lake Michigan byt not as bad this year as they have in prior years. Even though we went to the beach, there were not a lot of others there. The weather has been very cool and the lake is very chilly too. It was strange seeing the beach so deserted on a clear summer day. Technically, it was Sept 1st but the beach usually stays crowded well into the Labor Day weekend. Maybe next year we will have a proper summer.

That elephant is beautiful! Love those butterfly wing ears :)
And somebody seems to have a sense of humour with Barack llama!

Beach always has colorful elements, blue sky and golden sand to start with. Zebra mussel shells look striking similar to our Kupang which is very much edible and thrive at river mouth.... ~bangchik
